Cloud storage has become the default repository for billions of files: work documents, family photos, ID card scans, financial reports, even passwords saved in notes. The convenience of access from any device comes with a trade-off: your files sit on servers managed by another company, and their security depends on settings that users never review.

Risks inherent to cloud storage

Major cloud providers like Google, Microsoft, and Apple encrypt data in transit and at rest on their servers. But they hold the encryption keys. That means they can access your files if compelled by court order, or if their employees are compromised.
